Over 2,000 people celebrate in the sunshine as the lido turns 90 in style
Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate this amazing milestone
Ilkley Lido was right at the heart of the community on Sunday 11 May, as more than 2,000 visitors came through the gates to celebrate the outdoor pool’s 90th birthday in spectacular sunshine. The event marked not only the beginning of the 2025 summer season, but also a major milestone in the lido’s proud history.
Families, swimmers, and supporters of all ages gathered to enjoy a community fun day filled with music, food, celebration, competitions and even life saving courses.
A key highlight was a fascinating heritage timeline charting the lido’s history from its opening in 1935 as part of King George V’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, through to the present day. This unique timeline was created on tote bags by local artist and Ilkley Pool and Lido Community Group member Joanne Tinker. It will now be going on display at the Manor House in Ilkley from Saturday 17 May.
The atmosphere was buoyed by perfect weather and a renewed sense of purpose, following the community’s outpouring of support to save the lido after it was previously at risk of closure.
This 90th birthday event was also the first to be held in official partnership with Bradford Council, marking a significant step in the ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting the historic pool.

The success of the day could not have happened without the fantastic efforts of the lido team, volunteers, performers and the local businesses who supported the event. From setting up in the early hours to supporting activities throughout the day, from donating raffle prizes to keeping the crowds entertained and well fed. The Ilkley Pool and Lido Community Group would like to thank you all.
A big shout out to all the raffle prize donors who gave generously across the town and showed their support…

Sunday’s celebration wasn’t just about the lido’s past, it’s also a celebration of its future. The lido is now officially open for the 2025 season, and there are lots more exciting events planned so we look forward to seeing you there.
Here’s to another fabulous 90 years!
